SOUTH KOREAN LIGHT RAIL

Posted on 01 November 2009

South Korea’s Hyundai Rotem has completed the first of 50
light rail vehicles (LRV) for the new Busan-Gimhae line. Running from Busan Sasang to Gimhae Shinmyung, it is expected to cut travel times between the two cities by an hour when services begin in April 2011. The 300-passenger-capacity vehicle uses wireless communication control and the ATC/ATO driving system, which can operate without a driver. The contract for the fleet, awarded by Busan Gimhae Line Corporation in 2006, includes devices for signalling, communication, mechanics and automation as well as the electric and mechanical system engineering.
