RAIL STAFF MUST TRAVEL BY ROAD

Posted on 21 November 2009

According to a report in the London Daily Mail, employees of Network Rail, the government-owned British infrastructure entity, have been told to travel by road from Reading to a conference in Coventry because trains are too costly. It was found that taking 200 staff members by rail could cost £27,000. Instead, they are to be collected by coach from Network Rail’s head office in Berkshire at a cost of £2,400 – a tenth of the cost by train.
