KINGWILLIAMSTOWN SERVICE

According to a Metrorail pamphlet, R14m was spent on refurbishing Kingwilliamstown station and R180,000 on repainting coaches. It is to cost about R11,000 per day in operating subsidy to keep the restored service running (The former passenger trains to Kingwilliamstown were discontinued some two decades ago). Both metro plus & metro (old first and third class) accommodation is provided. Departure from Kingwilliamstown is at 05:40 and 16:50; from East London at 05h45 and 17:00. Security is provided on the trains and at stations. The pamphlet requests passengers to keep the doors closed when the train is moving.

Fares: 1st class single R20.00; 3rd class R7.50 – Weekly 1st class R110.00 3rd class R46.00 – Monthly 1st class R380.00 3rd class R150.00.
