CHINA SIGNS NIGERIAN ABUJA-KADUNA RAIL DEAL

Posted on 13 November 2009 by Railways Africa Editor

Nigerian transport minister Ibrahim Isa Bio and China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) managing director Zhou Tianxiang have signed a deal worth $US876 million to build a railway between Abuja and Kaduna, about 200km, in three years. The Chinese government has granted Nigeria a concessionary loan of $US500 million for the project. The project is to be the first phase of the country’s railway modernisation. Other plans include reconstructing the existing line from Lagos to Kano, 1,126km.

While this article talks about a line from Abjuja to Kudana, the map in RA September 2009, p12, shows a line (albeit shorter) from Abuja to Minna.

A connection to Minna is shorter if you want to reach to megacity of Lagos, Kaduna being a comparative whistlestop, though a junction one at that.

Not considered here is the terrain; do any big mountains get in the way of any “lines drawn of maps” route.

    Some clarification is needed.
