CASABLANCA TRAM CONTRACT

Posted on 21 November 2009 by Railways Africa Editor

France’s Alstom has won a €120 million contract to build a tramway network in Casablanca, Morocco’s largest city.

In terms of the deal, which could be worth €190 million over 15 years including options and maintenance, the company will provide 74 Citadis trams to Casa Transports, the local public transport operator.

Alstom Transport will supply the vehicles coupled in double units of 65 metres total, a configuration similar to the sets currently under construction for Rabat, the kingdom’s capital.

The trams are due to enter service in December 2012.
