BURST MAIN FLOODS HELSINKI STATIONS

Posted on 21 November 2009 by Railways Africa Editor

Three underground Metro stations in central Helsinki were closed after a water main burst, flooding the tunnels beneath. The main Metro station is expected to be out of service for several weeks. The burst main was traced to the front entrance of the railway station in central Helsinki. Officials said there were hundreds – or even thousands – of cubic litres of water in the station tunnel and boarding platform, while the water in the tunnel’s exit shaft was several metres deep. No injuries were reported.
