TRACK TO BE 100% RECYCLED

Posted on 26 October 2009 by Railways Africa Editor

Britain’s Network Rail has begun a £21 million track replacement project on the Boston-Skegness line using fully recycled materials. The project involves renewing the three-decades-old 51km of track with “100% recycled rail, sleepers and ballast.” Phase 1, covering the first 20km, is expected to finish in November. The rest of the line is scheduled to be complete by March 2010. The existing jointed trackwork will be replaced by continuously welded rail.
