KENYA STD GAUGE TENDER

Posted on 20 September 2009 by Railways Africa Editor

Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC) is calling for tenders for the construction of a 1,082km standard gauge line from Mombasa via Nairobi to Malaba on the Ugandan border, together with a 216km branch from Nakuru to Kisumu. It is hoped to reduce travel times between the capital and the sea (530km) from ten to three hours. Prospective transaction advisers and design consultants have until 15 January 2010, to forward their bids. The project includes marketing, investor identification and supporting selection of consultants to monitor detailed design, building and commissioning of the railway. The introduction of double-deck passenger coaches is envisaged, the Daily Nation (published in Nairobi) reports.
