TRANSNET BOARD CHAIR

Public enterprises minister Barbara Hogan has appointed Professor Geoff Everingham as acting chairman of Transnet.
He succeeds Fred Phaswana who has retired.
Trade union Utata congratulated Everingham on his appointment though general secretary Chris de Vos said both this and the chief executive’s positions should be made permanent.
“We really feel that it is a very uncomfortable situation. Are we really moving in the right direction; did the minister make a business appointment or is it temporary?” he was quoted asking.
