HRASA AGM 2009 REPORT BACK

Posted on 08 July 2009 by Railways Africa Editor

The Heritage Railway Association of Southern Africa (HRASA) held its annual general meeting in Johannesburg on 27 June 2009.

According to a statement issued afterwards, the association – “represented by almost a full membership complement – saw the organisation cement its role in the future of rail heritage and tourism in the region.

“The full-day programme, which included a workshop on a restructuring model, will enable the organisation to address rail heritage and tourism on a broader scale. The final model will be presented to the board of directors at the end of July for ratification, before being submitted to the members for implementation.

“The newly-elected HRASA board of directors is led by Chris Janisch (Friends of the Rail) as chairman, supported by Ian Pretorius (Atlantic Rail) as vice-chairman; Nerina Skuy (Skuys Communications) as secretary; and Dudley Smith (Ingwe Municipality), Elize Lubbe (Reefsteamers), Mark Robinson (CREA) and Ed van den Heever as elected board members. Bruce Brinkman (BNM) and Coen Pretorius (Reefsteamers) are co-opted office-bearers, with the portfolios of treasurer and rail safety representative respectively.

“HRASA has also established a strong sub-committee structure to ensure that the organisation is effective in implementing its role going forward.”
