GAUTRAIN TRACKLAYING PROGRESS

Posted on 20 July 2009 by Railways Africa Editor

Gautrain’s route requires 150km of track in all. By the end of June, 37km had been installed – about 24% of the total.

Track construction inside the tunnels is utilising a “state-of-the-art” system, consisting of pre-cast concrete blocks surrounded with a rubber boot cast into concrete. Sections of track outside the tunnel are using conventional ballasted track.
