MASVINGO BRANCH

Posted on 14 May 2009 by Railways Africa Editor

A notice posted at Bulawayo Station states that passenger services on the Masvingo Branch have been suspended from 8 May for the six months due to “the dangerous state of the track”. Chas Rickwood reports on sar-L: “The three-times-weekly return trip from Gweru to Masvingo has in fact run as a mixed train since its inception so there will now be no trains on the branch. I hear that freight traffic has been virtually nil in recent years so it will be interesting to see whether the line ever re-opens.”
