Posted on 04 April 2009 by Railways Africa Editor

The Saudi Arabia finance ministry extended the tender closing date by one week to 4 April for the estimated $US1 billion contract to build a monorail at Princess Noura bint Abdulrahman University for Women.

The prospective bidders include Saudi Oger with Canada’s Bombardier, Saudi Binladin Group with Japan’s Mitsubishi Corporation, El-Seif Engineering & Contracting with Germany’s Siemens and Saudi Freyssinet with Italy’s Ansaldo.

The contract, expected to be complete in three years, involves the construction of an 11km monorail network elevated 10 metres above the ground to link the facilities at the university.

Beirut-based Dar al-Handasah is the consultant on the work.
