EGYPTIAN UNION VISITS PAKISTAN

Welcoming a delegation from the Egyptian General Trade Union of Railways (Egtur) in Lahore on 11 April, Pakistan minister for railways Faqir Ahmed Jadam Mangrio said a progressive union could serve as an effective liaison between administration and employees, facilitating the solution of employees’ problems and communicating the administration’s perspective to the government.
Following the model of a progressive railway workers’ union in Egypt, he said a union at could play a vital role in meeting the challenges facing the Pakistan Railways (PR). Faqir Ahmed assured workers present that all PR appointments and promotions would be based on merit; however, employees’ children would be given priority according to the prescribed quota. Egtur vice-president Tag-El-Mostafa-El-Latif thanked the minister for inviting his colleagues to Pakistan and issued a reciprocal invitation which was accepted.
